PRINTS BY TATARAYA STUDIO
POTTERY BY YAMANITA GAMA

JUNE 4–24, 2026
THU–FRI OPEN

This exhibition takes a slightly different direction from our usual program.

It brings together Otomaru Prints, produced at Kamiya's Tataraya Studio in the 1990s, and works by people gathering around Yamanita Gama in Kagoshima.

Neither began as a formal artistic project.

Working with paper, carving blocks, gathering around fire, shaping clay.

These are small accumulations of everyday making — activities that quietly continued over time.

We hope you enjoy them with an open and relaxed mind.

OTOMARU PRINTS By TATARAYA STUDIO

音丸版画

Otomaru Prints began with small cat prints.

Cats were carved into wooden fish-cake boards and hand-printed as gifts for friends. Unexpectedly, they became popular, and eventually led to a series dedicated to vintage automobiles.

In the early 1990s, classic cars across Japan were researched and documented firsthand. Drawing, carving, printing, and publishing were all carried out within the studio.

These works later became the foundation for our ongoing exploration of paper itself.

Pottery by YAMANITA GAMA

山仁田窯(鹿児島)

Located deep in the mountains of Minamikyushu, Kagoshima, Yamanita Gama is not a place of professional potters.

People from different walks of life gather here to shape clay, split wood, and tend the fire.

The kiln has continued to burn since 2000.

Using a traditional anagama kiln, pieces are fired only with wood for four days and four nights.

Beyond pottery itself, the place has become a community where people gather and share time together.
