福山一光が水墨で描く森の風景は、ただごとではない雰囲気に充ちている。
たとえば、森のなかに隠された暗部である。木々の葉に覆われた表面からはうかがえないのだが、細い木の幹に支えられた密やかな空間が息づいている。
それは、人為にまみれていない自然の神々しさが宿る場所なのだろうか。
もちろん人によって解釈は異なるにしても、そこから滲み出る感覚に引力があるのは間違いない。
福山は、東京藝術大学の大学院を修了。曹洞宗永平寺で修業し、いまは東京の片隅にあるアパートで隠棲するようにして水墨画と向き合っている。

Ikko Fukuyama's Indian ink paintings of forest scenery possess an extraordinary atmosphere. Let me take, for example, the dark areas hidden in the forest. While undetectable from the leaf-covered surface, a secret space supported by slender tree-trunks rests inside. Could it be a space inhabited by the divinity of nature untainted by artificiality? Of course, interpretations will vary among viewers, but it is nonetheless certain that this space evokes sensations of a captivating quality.
Fukuyama completed the graduate course at Tokyo University of the Arts. He trained at Eihei-ji temple of the Sōtō school of Zen Buddhism, and currently resides in an apartment in a corner of Tokyo, where he lives a somewhat secluded lifestyle working on Indian ink paintings.
